ISC Medical Comments on Group Discussions in Medical Interviews

London, United Kingdom (14 January 2011) – ISC Medical, a leading provider of medical interviews and interview skills consultancy services, comment on the issues surrounding the role of group discussions in medical interviews.

Group discussions are to be removed from the selection process for GP trainees, yet will become more significant in consultant interviews, CT/ST (Core Training and Specialist Training) interviews and interviews for entry into medical schools. Group discussions usually revolve around ethical issues, current affairs and subjects related to work and the working environment.

Removing group discussions from GPST interviews has proven a controversial decision, as it is generally believed that they can help people reveal their personalities and viewpoints, which is helpful in a position of such responsibility.

“It is certainly a cause of some contention among those in the medical sector,” commented ISC Managing Director, Olivier Picard. “Group discussions have traditionally played a large part in the GPST training scheme, and many people are largely confused as to why it is being used in some areas but not another. We are focused on providing the best courses for medical interviews possible, and we are happy to support people in practising group discussions.”
