Track Surveys Comments on Recent CIPD Report

London, United Kingdom (6th February, 2013)Track Surveys, a leading UK provider of performance-related tools and services, comment on the findings of a recent report from The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

CIPD’s latest report has found that one in seven organisations do not make any attempt to evaluate individuals’ management and leadership skills for promotions. Almost half of organisations evaluate management skills informally, while two-fifths use 360-degree feedback and a quarter use engagement surveys.

The report also highlighted how organisations are most likely to respond to poor feedback for line managers and leaders by giving appropriate feedback and providing a learning and improvement plan. Far fewer organisations have given informal warnings or penalised managers through the performance review.

Employees are also the least likely to report that their manager always/usually coaches them on the job (30%), discusses their training and development needs (41%) or gives them feedback on how they are performing (46%).

In light of these findings, Track Surveys believes that in order for organisations to succeed, employees must be given regular, balanced and constructive feedback on their performance. As well as direct observation, line managers need data to find out how employees perform when their manager is not around, and 360 Degree Feedback is a critical tool for providing this data.

Track Surveys highlights that another factor for success is ensuring that people are being assessed consistently and fairly for management and leadership skills. These are hard-to-measure skills that a customised 360 degree feedback can identify and measure; supporting training and development in a focused way, as well as measuring the return on investment.

A spokesperson for Track Surveys commented: “Alongside advice and support on designing customised 360 feedback programmes and online systems for delivery, Track Surveys has now added a coaching and facilitation service that supports the training of appraisees and their managers in using feedback more effectively to improve performance.

“This adds value and meaning to the one to one conversations that managers and appraisees have, and makes performance much easier to manage over time.

“Track Surveys provides 360 degree feedback solutions which integrate the key processes of training, performance management, assessment and promotion – ensuring that key skills, behaviours, values and visions are measured in a consistent way right across the organisation.

“We urge any businesses considering reaping the benefits of 360 feedback to contact us today for further details.”
