Following the recent announcement from Yahoo! stating that all employees must now be office-based, a CWJobs.co.uk survey reveals the views of IT employees on remote working, including project managers.
The research found that 80% of respondents do currently work from home or remotely, and 70% felt remote working was positive for the businesses that allow it. Even project management roles were able to be executed remotely.
Perhaps due to the nature of the industry, 72% also believe that IT pros should be granted more flexibility for home or remote working than other office based employees.
Over 60% of respondents however, did admit that working relationships suffer by having people based in varying locations and 35% think that has a negative impact on the emergence of new ideas. Examples of roles that can be seen as more challenging when worked remotely are project management jobs on CWJobs.
Richard Nott, Website Director, CWJobs, says: “This research shows that employees have a good appreciation of both the benefits and limitations of remote working, but there’s still a strong desire for employers to facilitate it. From a recruitment perspective, if businesses have the infrastructure to fully support remote working it will open them up to a wider range of quality candidates, and those who may be seeking that option. A blanket policy is a bold move to counter some of the disadvantages of remote working but it could mean missing out on talent.”
