West Sussex, UK (11th April, 2013) – Airport Parking and Hotels (APH), the UK’s leading airport parking specialist, is helping families flying abroad this May Half Term to enjoy a frazzle-free flight by comparing the child-friendly facilities available on-board all the major airlines. The table is available in the Know Before You Go section of the website, at www.aph.com/familyfriendly.
The research compares the facilities available on all major airlines, including British Airways, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic, highlighting the children’s amenities available such as baggage allowance, baby seats, in-flight cots, meals and entertainment.
With regards to baggage allowance, most of the airlines offer infants an allowance of around 10kg – 12kg for baggage put into the hold; however, the long-haul airlines—Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Etihad—were found to offer a much larger allowance of 20kg, 23kg and 30kg respectively.
Parents travelling with small children who need a baby seat or in-flight cot should be aware that most airlines ask for this to be booked in advance and have weight and age restrictions. The minimum weight allowed on a baby or booster seat ranges from 10kg to 14kg, and the maximum weight is 18kg with American Airlines and 20kg with Virgin Atlantic. American Airlines, on the other hand, offer this to customers on a first-come, first-served basis and Ryanair do not allow baby seats or in-flights cots in the cabin at all.
Most of the airlines were found to offer children’s meals and to provide the facilities for heating bottles and food on-board, apart from American Airlines which do not offer baby food and easyJet, Iberia and Ryanair, who do not offer any kind of children’s meal.
