The Damp Proofing Industry is Enjoying a Rise in Demand

England 19/03/2013 – At a time when many in the building industry are struggling, those who offer damp proofing have seen demand rise

Recent studies have shown that UK consumers are thinking twice before spending money on their homes. However, when it comes to damp proofing this does not seem to be the case. Some members of the Damp Proofing Association have seen their turnover grow by as much as 43% in the past year. Of course, not every damp proofing company has seen turnover rise, but the fact that some have is perceived by most in the industry as an indication that future growth is possible.

It is not 100% clear where this growth is coming from. When asked customers of damp proof specialists give different reasons for having called the firm in.

Without a doubt, UK homeowners and commercial property owners are far more aware of damp than they once were. In the past many homeowners, ignored damp especially if the signs of the damp were on the outside of their homes. Today, they are far more likely to recognise the early signs of a damp problem. The fact that damp issues have been repeatedly featured on DIY shows and home buying shows has certainly educated the British public to some extent. Not only do they know the signs of damp they have also seen examples of what happens to a property when damp is not dealt with promptly. Seeing a demolished because of damp, during a TV programme, has brought home to people the need to protect their homes properly from damp. Property owners increasingly understand that not dealing with damp is definitely a false economy.

Damp proofing is relatively inexpensive
Today’s property owners also know that getting damp problems sorted out is not necessarily expensive, and that many damp problems can be fixed without a huge amount of disruption. The modern techniques and materials that firms like Adobing now use is part of the reason the cost of damp proofing has fallen over the past decade. They have enabled them to develop solutions that work for all kinds of buildings and that can easily be applied.
