Leicester, UK October 22nd 2012 – Many models of Gibson guitar are considered collectable but the Collectors’ Series goes beyond the usual measures taken by Gibson to produce high quality and desirable guitars. Based on an original collectable, the modern equivalent is created following in-depth material analysis and precise identification of which materials should be used in their construction. The end result is a guitar that is as close to the original as possible without actually being the original.
The #6 is modelled on the 1958-1960 Les Paul and analysts from the Gibson factory have been poring over an original example of the series in order to determine the best available materials and processes. Digital analysis has been used to study a pristine example, which has barely seen the light of day in the years since its production. Original tool marks can be seen on the body of the guitar and the non-filtered tobacco burst finish is said to have been extremely unusual even when the guitar was first produced.
There are many Gibson collectors around the world and while originals sell for tens of thousands of pounds, these Collectors’ Series equivalents offer the closest experience to owning the original with a slightly smaller price tag. Gibson has said that there will be a maximum of 300 of the latest model produced, depending on the availability of materials, and they will cost around $9,000 or roughly £5,600 when they go on sale.
