Trenitalia, the national railway operator in Italy is a pionner in rail travel. The railway company has different Italian domestic trains including high speed trains such as the Frecciarossa, Frecciargento or Frecciabianca. Trenitalia offers train connections inside Italy and beyond Italy as well. International connections are possible thanks to partnerships and well known trains such as Elipsos or the France-Italy TGV allowing travellers to reach destinations like France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, etc.
Italian domestic trains have travel durations which vary according to routes. The Milan – Rome trip lasts about 3 hours while it take just 1h25 to reach Florence from Rome. Romantic souls can reach Venice in just over 2 hours when departing from Florence.
Offering Trenitalia in our catalogue, isn’t something new. What is new, is that as from the second half of 2012, Rail Europe will be offering the MINI offer of Trenitalia. That’s great news for those who are travelling on a budget or for those who simply want to pay less. The MINI offer will, of course, allow you to board trains like AV, Eurostar Italia (ES), Frecciabianca, InterCity and Night trains.
Through Rail Europe, you can book a MINI offer up to 2 days before the departure of an Italian domestic train in which you will be travelling. However the Trenitalia MINI offer cannot be cumulated with other reductions or offers, including child discounts.
In the next few weeks, Rail Europe will allow its customers to book Trenitalia tickets to travel in Italy by choosing the Ticketless purchasing solution. As the name indicates, customers won’t have to print any ticket thus avoiding any loss, delivery time and delivery fees. Just note or, if you have a good memory, retain the PNR (Passenger Name Record). Notify an on board railway official when travelling by train in Italy.
All MINI tickets purchased with the ticketless option can only be changed at the ticket desks at the railway stations up to midnight before the day of departure of the train. Travellers are only allowed to change the departure date or time for the same train service. The change is subject to a fee.
Trenitalia regional trains do not require a reservation. Passengers are only required to validate the ticket before boarding the train. High speed trains and international trains do however require a reservation. Passengers can book a reservation on Rail Europe.
