Express Solicitors Pledges Support to Sound Off for Justice Campaign

Manchester, United Kingdom (5 July, 2011) – Express Solicitors, a leading UK firm of fully accredited personal injury solicitors, has pledged its support to the Sound Off for Justice Campaign,  which is dedicated to fighting Government proposed legal aid budget cuts to the tune of £350m.

Express Solicitors has recently announced its backing for the Law Society’s Sound Off for Justice Campaign, which is trying to prevent the legal aid cuts proposed by the current Ministry of Justice. Express Solicitors believes that the proposed cuts are a threat to core access to justice and that many people will ultimately lose their legal voice in society, with many citizens no longer being protected in areas such as medical negligence, divorce, employment and welfare. The proposed changes to the system would result in homeowners of properties worth more than £200,000 being ineligible for legal aid support, regardless of other financial circumstances, which the Law Society believes will mean that a large proportion of London residents, and those in other areas with high property prices, will no longer have any access to essential free legal representation.

Express Solicitors has declared its full support to a Government rethink of the proposed cuts, believing that if the legal aid proposals, as they stand, go ahead, many will suffer as a result, including those such as people fighting for employment justice, women trying to escape from abusive marriages and those seeking access to or custody of their children.  The Sound Off for Justice Campaign is now urging the British public to sign its online petition or leave a message to express their opposition to the recommended legal aid cuts by the current Justice Secretary, Ken Clarke.

A spokesperson for Express Solicitors commented: “Here at Express Solicitors we understand the importance of legal aid and the negative impact it would have if thousands of people every year didn’t have access to this kind of essential support. We believe that the proposed changes will mean that many people who need free legal help to attain justice will simply no longer be able to pursue it, which is why we are proud to offer our backing to the Sound Off for Justice Campaign, which we hope will ultimately help prevent the government’s proposed cuts to the legal aid system. This could help ensure that UK citizens continue receive the legal help and support they need for their voice to be heard and for justice to prevail.”
