Express Solicitors Announces Support for AJAG and APIL Legal Funding Campaigns

Manchester, United Kingdom (5 July, 2011) – Express Solicitors, a leading UK firm of fully accredited personal injury solicitors, has announced its support for two current campaigns led by the Access to Justice Action Group and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers respectively.

Express Solicitors has recently announced that it is giving its full backing to both of the current legal funding campaigns being led by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and the Access to Justice Action Group (AJAG) respectively. These campaigns were both formed in an attempt to contest new Government proposed reforms to civil litigation funding, which Express Solicitors believes will result in denying access to justice for thousands of people in the UK every year seeking compensation for an injury caused by someone else’s negligence.

Express Solicitors is backing AJAG and APIL’s belief that these proposed legal funding changes would result in reduced access to justice or inadequate compensation for injured parties and small businesses across England and Wales, if they are to go ahead.  Express believes that if these changes are implemented within the civil litigation system, the elevated costs associated with making some claims will result in individuals or small businesses being unable to afford to bring their case at all. The proposed reforms could also significantly reduce awarded compensations in successful claims, with some legal costs having to be paid by the innocent claimant and not the guilty party.

“No win no fee claims can currently provide a voice to people in any walk of life who have been subject to an accident or injury which wasn’t their fault, by helping to compensate them for loss of earnings, injuries or stresses associated with the experience. We believe that the proposed changes to civil litigation funding threaten the access to this kind of justice for many, as a much larger percentage of people will no longer be able to afford to mount a compensation claim at all.” Commented a spokesperson for Express Solicitors. “We believe that the proposed reforms are not the best way to move the civil litigation industry forward because we feel that it will result in justice discrimination against those who won’t be able to afford to seek compensation because of these changes. Therefore, we are committed to backing both campaigns by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Access to Justice Action Group to see only those reforms which protect and promote justice for all.”
