In a recent blog post, Google openly claimed that Bing had copied some of its search results – an allegation which Bing has strenuously denied. Amidst this very public argument, however, Experian Hitwise released data which shows that Bing’s results (in the U.S.) carried an 81 per cent success rate, compared to Google’s 65 per cent in January 2011.
These figures were similar in December 2010, showing that Bing’s success rate has been consistently high for a while. ‘Success rate’ is measured by how many people choose to actually click on the link to a website when they enter a term on a search engine. Though Google has a much larger share of the search market in the U.S., it appears that searchers are more enticed by Bing’s results, whatever the reason may be.
“It’ll be interesting to see how this data alters over the next couple of months.
