Renfe Onboard: Onboard services

Train travellers exploring Spain will enjoy Renfe’s high-speed AVE trains across the country.

The AVE trains connect Spain’s most inspirational cities, and beautiful towns, with a fast and comfortable service for all travellers.

Passengers can be transported from bustling Madrid to colourful Barcelona in just 40 minutes, or cultural Valencia in 1hr35 minutes. For those wanting to explore further south, the stunning city of Seville is just 2hr20 minutes from Spanish capital, and Malaga’s beaches just five hours from Barcelona on the high speed AVE trains.

On board the trains offer spacious, comfortable carriages for passengers to relax and enjoy the Spanish countryside.

Each seat also has a TV screen, radio and power socket for laptops and other portable personal devices.

There’s also a buffet car serving light snacks and drinks and wheelchair facilities are also available on-board.

First class passengers will be served a meal and drinks in-seat by the friendly staff, and those who want to upgrade to Club Class will be able to choose from an a la carte menu.

There are other benefits to travelling in the premium classes with Renfe.

Renfe has many lounges in stations across Spain giving AVE First class passengers a tranquil place to wait and get ready for their journey.

Lounges have TVs, newspapers, internet access and a fax machine for anyone wanting to finish a bit of business before the relaxing journey begins.

Lounges are available at Sala Club in Alacant Términal, Albacete Los Llanos, Barcelona-Sants, Camp de Tarragona, Castellón, Córdoba Central, Lleida-Pirineus, Málaga María Zambrano, Madrid Chamartín, Madrid Puerta de Atocha, Murcia El Carmen, Seville Station. Justa, Valencia Joaquín Sorolla, Valladolid Campo Grande and Zaragoza Delicias. First Class passengers also get free parking for 24 hours when they buy a single ticket, or 48 hours free parking for a return journey.

Standard class (Tourista) passengers will enjoy air conditioned carriages with comfortable spacious seats, and those travelling with babies have access to changing facilities and play areas.

Those who want to plan ahead should note that AVE tickets can be bought two months prior to departure and check-in is open 30 minutes before the train leaves.

Today the Spanish train system has fast become one of Europe’s most extensive high speed networks – and third in the world after China and Japan.
