England – 15/01/2012 – The range of products you can use for cavity wall insulation now includes SuperQuilt multi-foil
For some time builders have been using multi-foil products to insulate all areas of a building. Some forms of insulation are easier to install than others, especially when it comes to cavity wall insulation.
Perhaps the easiest form of insulation to use comes in rolls, which are almost like a roll of fabric. They are light, so are very easy to handle. In addition, getting the insulation into difficult nocks and crannies, and to going around corners is far easier because it is so flexible.
Why SuperQuilt is such a popular cavity wall insulation
Not only are SuperQuilt and other multi-foil insulation materials easy to work with they are extremely effective. They are designed to deal with every kind of energy transfer including radiation, convection and conduction making them the perfect cavity wall insulation material. The way SuperQuilt is stitched together means that there are none of the cold bridging issues you get with some other similar products.
In the summer, hot air is kept out and cool air in, and in the winter, the opposite happens. Warm air is trapped in the house and reflected back into it and cold air is prevented from penetrating into the rooms of the house. Homes fitted with this insulating material require less heating in the winter and less cooling in the winter, so are very energy efficient.
The fact that SuperQuilt can be used for practically any wall makes it a flexible form of cavity wall insulation. Many other products require another form of insulation to be applied to walls such as solid brick or block walls. SuperQuilt only requires that the wall be battened out to a depth of 25mm. The roll of multi-foil is applied to these battens and a further layer of battens to allow the plasterboard to be applied.
