Cooper Matthews Comments on the Rise of Utility Costs

Leeds, United Kingdom, (18th October 2011) – Cooper Matthews, a leading provider of business debt advice and solutions for small to medium businesses requiring financial advice, has spoken out against rising utility costs in the UK.

The company has warned that if the cost of utilities continues to go up, it will have a negative effect on businesses, as it adds to their already growing overheads. They added that should prices come down, more money will be free for businesses to spend on other aspects.

Bills for gas, electricity and other fuels rose 18.3pc on the year in September, whilst the Consumer Price Index is at its highest level for nearly 20 years. Ahead of a summit on gas and electricity prices, Prime Minister David Cameron has said that the Government needs to work “harder and faster” in order to bring down energy bills. The Bank of England has predicted that inflation will start to ease over the next couple of years, which would ease the burden on families and businesses.

A spokesperson for Cooper Matthews said: “If utility costs continue to rise then it is going to become increasingly difficult for businesses, especially smaller businesses, to meet those costs. The Government need to work hard to bring down these costs and they need to do it quickly. At Cooper Matthews, we are expecting to see a rise in the number of small and medium-sized businesses coming to us for financial advice due to the rising costs of utilities.”
