Chips.co.uk responds to potential American gambling licence for Zynga

Cheshire, United Kingdom (15th January 2012) –  The team behind free betting comparison website Chips.co.uk have reacted positively to news that games developer Zynga has applied for a gambling licence from the state of Nevada in the USA.

Zynga, the company that created Facebook game ‘Farmville’ had, it was reported in late 2012, begun the application process for applying for the licence in the state home to Las Vegas. Since 2006, when a surprise amendment was made to gambling laws by US Congress, online betting and gaming for money was outlawed across America.  Bereft of its biggest market, it cost the industry billions of pounds. It caused companies to focus their attentions on their operations in other locations, but there was no doubt that losing America was something that the industry has never quite fully recovered from.

Industry insiders must now wait 18 months to see whether Zynga are given a gambling licence by Nevada, the state which legalises brick and mortar gambling. If successful, this potentially could see other online gambling companies allowed to trade in the US. Zynga have announced that they plan to develop and introduce real-money gambling games in the UK in 2013. Games like ‘Farmville’ have been in decline in recent times, but it is estimated that 80 per cent of Zynga’s income is generated by Facebook. Real-money games like ‘Bingo Friendzy’ have since been launched onto the network and are licensed by gaming commissions in Gibraltar.

Betting comparison website Chips.co.uk lists all the latest offers from the UK’s top online bookmakers, casino, poker and bingo sites. Matt Bullas, the entrepreneur behind Chips.co.uk, has stated that industry chiefs and punters alike should monitor this story closely.

“Potentially, Zynga could be turned down and things will stay more or less the same as they are now. However, it is easy to understand why some may start to get excited if they are successful in their bid,” said Bullas. “If operators like those featured on our site were to begin trading online in the US, then that would be of huge benefit to both the industry and to their customers.”
