17 February 2011 – A photography expert is warning wannabe models, groups of friends and romantic couples to beware of unscrupulous snappers.
Bookings for photo shoots and makeovers shot up for Valentine’s Day, however it is increasingly being reported that photographers claiming to be professionals, turn out to be fakes producing poor quality pictures, if any at all.
In Focus, a professional photography insurance provider, is advising people to only book reputable photographers.
Steve Hewlett, a photography expert at In Focus, said:
“These packages offering professional makeup, a range of props and a photo session with supposed professionals are often bought as presents for Valentine’s Day and special occasions.
“However there are a lot of fakes on the market promising glamorous makeovers and photo shoots and taking advantage of innocent romantics.
“My advice is to check out the studio’s website before booking, check they have a secure online booking system – look out for the padlock and never pay any money upfront. It is also worth asking your photographer’s credentials, to find out if he/she is a member of the British Institute of Professional Photography or has a degree in photography and is insured.”
